Most holiday yards grow one impulse purchase at a time. The three-layer method gives them a structure.
Layer 1: a scene
Choose one scene with several characters doing something together. Place it where people slow down: near the driveway or the front walk.
Layer 2: one statement piece
Add a single tall figure toward the back of the yard, where it frames the scene without blocking it.
Layer 3: lighted accents
Use ornament balls, lanterns, stakes and light trees to connect the scene and the statement piece after dark, and to light the path to the door.
Practical checks
- Measure the space and leave room for tethers.
- Map outdoor outlets and cord routes.
- Use timers so the display turns on at dusk.
